About Rhythmly

Rhythmly answers one practical question: what fits my record player? We started with replacement needles and cartridges, because “which needle does my record player take?” is one of the questions record player owners ask most. The answer is often buried in a manual, split across model codes, or different for two versions of what looks like the same deck.

My story

I am Gotame, and I live in the UK. Getting the best sound out of whatever I had has been a habit since I was young.

Growing up, I always wanted to hear music at its best. I did not want a single box that did everything. I bought proper speakers, the kind with their own bass and treble controls, and I wired them up myself. I ran cables to different corners of the room to build my own surround sound, then moved things around for days to find the spot where it all came together. I was never quite finished. There was always one more setting to try.

My taste has changed over the years. For a long time it was all about the bass. These days I prefer speakers in the style of studio monitors, the kind that let you hear every instrument on a record clearly, not just the low end.

Alongside the listening, I have a second hobby: following records themselves. I keep track of releases and release dates, and I like a well-organised database far more than most people would admit. Rhythmly is where those two habits meet.

Why I built this site

When I went looking for a replacement needle, the answer was out there, but it was spread across makers’ pages, manuals, forums and shop listings. Those sources did not always agree. Some shop listings say a needle fits when it does not, and some record players that share a name take different needles depending on the version.

So I built the site I wanted to find. You pick your record player, you see the needle and cartridge that fit, what you can upgrade to, and what else works with it. Every answer shows where it came from.

My background is in technology and IT, and that helps here. I care about getting the data right, showing the source of every part number, and fixing mistakes quickly.

What you will find here

  • Replacement needles for 127 record players from 12 brands, including Audio-Technica, Crosley, Technics, Pro-Ject, Victrola, Rega, Fluance, Sony and Denon.
  • 87 needles and 140 cartridges, each with the record players and cartridges it fits, its tip shape, and the official upgrade path where the maker offers one.
  • Clear warnings where it is easy to buy the wrong part. That covers record players that share a name but take different needles, Crosley and Victrola model codes, and decks where the needle cannot be replaced on its own, so the whole cartridge has to change.
  • Speakers, phono preamps, stands and record storage, matched to your record player where our data allows it. For example, we check whether your record player has a built-in preamp, which decides the kind of speakers you need.

Where our data comes from

Every part number on this site comes from the maker’s own website, specification sheet or manual. We never take part numbers from shop listings, marketplaces or forums. Each page links to the maker’s own page for the part.

If a maker does not publish a value, we leave it out. We never guess. The full method is on our how we check our data page.

How we choose the products we show

Products are listed because they fit. Rhythmly earns nothing from its links today, nobody pays to be listed, and nothing is placed higher for money. When we point out one product over another, we say why, using a fact from our data. Our affiliate disclosure explains what would change if we ever earned from links.

We do not test products or write reviews. We do not show star ratings. What we offer is checked compatibility information.

Spotted a mistake?

Makers update, rename and re-release record players and needles all the time, and we may miss a change. For the latest details, check the maker’s official website, which we link on every page. If something looks wrong, please tell us. A link to the maker’s page helps a lot, and we will check it and put it right.
