Record Player Cartridges

The cartridge is the small part at the end of the tonearm that holds the needle and turns its movement into a signal. Most cartridges take a replacement needle that slides in at the front, and many makers sell finer needles for the same body as an upgrade. Each cartridge page gives the needle it takes, its specs and the record players it comes on.

Half-inch mount

Most hi-fi cartridges, 57 of those listed here, use the standard half-inch mount: two screws, half an inch apart, hold the cartridge under the headshell. Each cartridge page gives the mount, the weight and the tracking force, which is what to compare before you fit a different cartridge.
