Check which model you have
- The AT-LP3 takes a different needle from the AT-LP3X, which takes the AT-VMN95C. The two names differ by one letter, so read the model name on your record player before you buy.
New cartridge instead?
The AT-LP3 takes cartridges with a standard half-inch mount, on a headshell you can take off. Audio-Technica gives a cartridge weight range for the tonearm of 14.5 to 20 g.
Do you need a phono preamp?
A phono preamp boosts the very quiet signal from the cartridge.
The AT-LP3 has one built in that you can switch off, so it plugs straight into powered speakers, or into an amplifier’s phono input with it switched off.
