Do you need a phono preamp?
A phono preamp boosts the very quiet signal from the cartridge.
The RT82 has none built in, so it needs an amplifier or speakers with a phono input, or a separate phono preamp.
Speakers that work with the RT82
Each of these has its own phono input, so the RT82 plugs in without a separate phono preamp.
R-41PM
Also has an optical input, for a TV.
MR1 Mk3
Has a subwoofer output, if you want more bass later.
Coda W
Bass drivers 130 mm across.

Questions about the RT82
Does the RT82 need a separate phono preamp?
Yes. The RT82 has no phono preamp built in, so it needs one for its OM 10 cartridge, a moving magnet type. Use an amplifier with a phono input, powered speakers with a phono input, or a separate phono preamp.
Can I fit a different cartridge to the RT82?
Yes. The RT82 has a standard half-inch mount, so you can swap the OM 10 cartridge for another of the same mount, and the headshell comes off to make it easier.
Can the RT82 play 78 rpm records?
No. The RT82 plays at 33 and 45 rpm only.
Which cartridge is on the RT82?
The OM 10, a moving magnet cartridge with a standard half-inch mount. Its replacement needle is the Stylus 10.
